Our Story

Private Label Specialties originated in 1991 with a simple but innovative idea: to offer custom-labeled sparkling water as an alternative to well-established brands like Poland Spring and Perrier. Rather than competing directly with national giants, our focus was on providing customers the unique addition of personalized labeling featuring their name and image. The positive reception to our custom-labeled water soon led to requests for additional flavors.

In 1992, recognizing the dominance of brands like Snapple and Coke in the beverage market, our Founder and President, Ray Duhaime, set his sights on revitalizing the root beer niche. Despite its waning popularity, we saw an opportunity to bring back the beloved flavor of our past. We collaborated with a mixologist from New York to craft a nostalgic root beer with a balanced sweetness and subtle wintergreen notes—and Private Label Specialties Root Beer was born!

Our next challenge was persuading establishments to embrace both the flavor of our root beer alongside the concept of private labeling. Our breakthrough came in 1995, when major players like Coke and Pepsi invested heavily in marketing root beer which sparked renewed interest in the beverage. Armed with our superior flavor and customer loyalty, we emerged victorious in taste tests and quickly earned the moniker "Root Beer Guys."

Our success was built on a win-win proposition: customers' branded labels attracted patrons, while the exceptional taste of our root beer ensured repeat business. As the "Root Beer Guys," we not only secured our share of the beverage market but also established ourselves as pioneers in helping businesses market and brand themselves effectively.

Despite attempts by competitors to replicate our model, our commitment to quality and innovation has kept us ahead for over three decades. With the addition of eighteen soda varieties and spring water to our lineup, we continue to evolve and meet the evolving needs of our customers.

Investments in technology and talent have streamlined our processes, enabling us to deliver from concept to final product in under an hour. Responding to customer demands, we expanded into promotional products distribution in 1997, offering branding options beyond beverages.

In 2006-2007, dissatisfaction with existing vendors led us to embrace Direct-to-Garment printing technology and acquire our screen printing and embroidery vendor. This strategic move empowered us to control production, ensuring top-notch service for our customers.

Looking ahead, our vision is clear: to extend the reach of Private Label Specialties nationwide. With a focus on customer satisfaction, technological innovation, and product development, we remain committed to delivering our Unique Branding Advantage™ to businesses across the United States.
